European Solar Prize for KWB

A role model for ecological, economical and social responsibility – with this verdict of the jury, KWB Biomass Heating Systems won the European Solar Prize. The in-ternationally acknowledged prize for renewable energies was recently handed over by Hermann Scheer, ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’ winner and President of Euroso-lar in Berlin.

The European Solar Prize is a special honour for KWB and simultaneously an obligation to continue their strong activity for renewable energies. “Right from the beginning, we wanted to clearly distinguish ourselves from the common offer of services and also convey values to our customers with our heating systems: Providing energy for life, because we ensure life with environmentally friendly and innovative biomass heating systems”, said Managing Di-rector Erwin Stubenschrott on the occasion of the awards ceremony in Berlin. By the way: KWB was the only Austrian company to win this coveted prize.

The specialist for pellet, wood chip and log-wood heating systems was awarded with the prize, because the company is standing up for the conversion of the heat supply to renew-able energies in an outstanding manner: KWB produces climate-neutral biomass heating systems, maintains the biggest private biomass research centre in Europe and in the KWB Academy offers its employees and partners numerous possibilities for training and further education. The commitment for the use of CO2-neutral heating equipment, the unique re-search activity and the comprehensive training offer make KWB Biomass Heating Systems a role model for ecological, economical and social responsibility.

For the eleventh time already, Eurosolar, the European Association for Renewable Energies, awarded the European Solar Prize. The prize goes to (public) institutions, persons and com-panies, which/who to a particular extent get involved with the use of solar energy in any form imaginable. 100 projects applied for the prize this year.

Eurosolar e.V.

Eurosolar is an independent association with the objective to completely substitute nuclear and fossil energy with renewable energy. It was founded in 1988, and meanwhile has about 3,000 members. At all operating levels, communal to international, the association addresses the various political protago-nists with plans for actions and concepts: market launch strategies, tax political assistance or strategy documents for sustainable agriculture are only a few examples for that.

The co-founder and President of Eurosolar is Hermann Scheer. He is a Member of the German Bundestag for the SPD, a member on the Federal Board of his party and honorary chairman in the World Council for Renewable Energies (WCRE). Since the end of the eighties, Scheer has been active at the national and international level for the general substitution of nuclear and fossil energies.

The company KWB Biomass Heating Systems

KWB is one of the biggest Austrian heating boiler manufacturers in the biomass area with its head-quarters in St. Margarethen/Raab in Styria. In 2009, 300 employees, 182 of which in Austria, gener-ated a turnover of just under 60 million Euros. Now already, the company has branches in eleven countries and exports above all to Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Slovenia and Chile.

The core competence of KWB are innovations: In the biomass area, KWB operates the biggest private research centre in Europe. Furthermore, KWB are supported by a broad research network, which also includes the German Fraunhofer Society.

KWB First Prize winner of IV. Carlos García Ocejo Award

for Quality of Facilities in El Ejido Sports

Spanish representative for KWB, HCI Company from Madrid, announced that their participation in renewable energy project Sports Centre El Ejido in Leon was a total success.  Referring to Referege.com (worldwide internet portal in area of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) was incorporation of biomass energy trough KWB automatic heating systems in the project considered to be one of the most efficient examples, case studies in the last two years.

These three organizations have played an important role in the project:

  • Regional Energy Entity of Castilla and León (EREN), technical execution and financing;
  • City council of Leon, building, installation maintenance, energy consumption optimization;
  • Council for Environment, supply and provision of bio fuel, extracting the biomass, transporting it to a processing plant to produce splinter and sending it to the consumption point.

The installation includes two biomass KWB boilers, TDS Powerfire model with an adjustable power of up to 150 KW, connected to a biomass storage deposit thanks to a no ending screw that, automatically, transports the bio fuel to an intermediate deposit to execute the combustion.

Congratulations HCI on the award!     Read more »

Keeping the visitors warm

Satisfied customers are our best references

The spectacular new National Trust Visitor Centre on the top of Chiltern Downs is the site of another Econergy biomass installation with a KWB 100 kW wood-chip boiler. Econergy also supplied the steel container fuel hopper and the ?Mus-Max? blower unit to accept delivery from a tipper or moving floor vehicle.

The building provides visitors with a stunning view over the downs and the bright open sales and café space is heated by underfloor coils fed solely from the wood boiler with a 2000 litre heat store.

UK biomass study visit at KWB

Study visit at Austrias leading companies in the renewable energy field

More than 20 interested farmers and responsible persons in the renewable energy sector were visiting KWB biomass heating systems at the company head quarter in Austria in spring this year.

It is already the fourth energy tour organised bei "Renewable Zukunft" in Cambridge which was set up in order to show best practise projects in Austria and Germany - the leading countries in the renewable energy sector.

At KWB the interested group was teached in the field of fully automatic biomass heating boilers, their applications and the production. As a result it was clear - that there is a huge potential in biomass heating as well for farmers and other cooperations in the UK.

The study visit group of Renewable Zukunft at KWB

As in Austria, producing environmentally friendly heat is a new supporting leg for agriculture. Unfortunately subsidies are not that high as in Austria, but being the first in the market can be a big chance for farmers.

We at KWB warmly welcome all interested people and enjoy to give you an insight view of production and fuctionality of our multi-awarded biomass heating systems in the power range from 10-300 kW.
